Express Release

A process where the carrier releases cargo without requiring the original paper bill of lading, usually based on a shipper's instruction and a letter of indemnity or standard undertaking by a bank.

Technical A formal waiver of the presentation of the original negotiable bill of lading, at the sole discretion of the carrier, enabling cargo delivery upon proof of identity and compliance with the carrier's release procedures.

A shorthand way of saying that the carrier will let the consignee pick up goods right away, using electronic channels instead of mailing documents.

Technical A release instruction in the carrier's system that marks the B/L as accomplished, allowing the destination agent to deliver cargo to the nominated consignee without surrender.
